Masala Puri!

Bangalore is famous for its fine sprawling gardens. There is one more thing which is famous in bangalore. Yes! Chats!  There will be atleast 1-2 chat houses / gadiwala in each street in the city. A few famous chat items are pani puri, bhel puri and not to forget the yummy masala puri.
I really miss the yummy spicy taste of masala puri. Then a thought came to my mind. Why not try doing the same at home instead of thinking of that? I tried it and believe me it was awesome. My hubby cldnt stop praising me for this. He just loved it. Here is the recipe.

Pani poori / papdi
Dry green peas - 1 1/2 cups (soak overnight and boil)
Pudina chutney (recipe at the end)
Sweet tamarind chutney (recipe available in pani puri recipe)
Onion - 1
Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
Corriander powder - 1/2 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
Cinnamon - 1 piece
Bay leaves - 2
Ginger - 1 small piece
Garlic - 2-3 pods
Black pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
Onion - 1
Carrot - 1
Corriander leaves - a few
Salt to taste
Sev - for garnishing
Chat masala

For green chutney:
Pudina leaves - a bunch
Corriander leaves - a few
Green chillies - 3-4
Sugar - 1/2 tsp

Grind onion, ginger, garlic and all the masala items into a fine paste. Add 1/2 cup of the boiled peas and grind.  In a kadai, heat some oil, add the bay leaves and cinnamon. Add the paste to it. Fry well. Add salt. If needed u can add more masala powder. Add the remaining peas along with pudina chutney and some water. Let it boil for 10 min. Remove the bay leaves and cinnamon from the mixture. This mixture is called ragada.
In another bowl, mix chopped onions, grated carrot and chopped corriander leaves.

In a plate, crush the puris using your hand. Pour 2-3 ladles of ragada on it. Pour some green chutney and sweet tamarind chutney if needed. Add a pinch of salt and chat masala. Top it with onion mixture and sev. 

Tomatoes can also be added. Do all these just before serving otherwise the pooris will become soggy.
