Pani Poori (Gol Gappa)

One of the most famous chat items now a days in India is Gol Gappa , also known as Pani poori. Here is an easy recipe for this chat which can be prepared at home effortlessly.


Ingredients:
Pani poori  - 1 packet (available in Indian stores)
Dry peas - 1 cup
Pani poori masala - 3-4 tbsp
Dry mango powder - 1 tsp
Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
Salt as per taste
Garam masala powder / Chat masala powder - 1 tsp
Sweet tamarind chutney (recipe at the end)*
To grind:
Pudina - 1 handful
Corriander leaves- a few
Salt
Green chilli - 2-3


Method:
For the stuffing:
Soak the peas overnight and pressure cook. Smash it a little. Add salt, garam masala and red chilli powder to the peas and mix well. Keep it aside. (Potatoes and chick peas can also be used for the fillings).
For the pani:
In a bowl, add 2-3 cups of water, pani poori masala, grinded paste, salt and dry mango powder. Mix well. Check the taste. You can add more water if it is too spicy. Strain the water and refrigerate it for half an hour.
To Serve:
Slightly make small hole without breaking the pooris. Put the stuffing, pour some sweet chutney(if needed), sprinkle some chopped onions, dip in the pani and relish it. Yummy!

*For the sweet tamarind chutney:
Soak a few dates, dry grapes, a bit of tamarind for 1/2 an hr. Grind it along with some jaggery and a bit of red chilli powder. Strain and boil for few min till the chutney thickens.
